Myth #1. The Theaters only run in the summer.
Actually most of the theaters run all winter, including the Oregon Cabaret Theater, Oregon Stage Works Theater, Camelot Theater, and the Ginger Rogers Theater in Medford. In addition, the Rogue Valley Symphony Orchestra offers an excellent concert series all winter, and the Rogue Opera programs are spectacular. Also, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival runs nearly 9 months of the year.
Myth #2. Ashland is only a summer town.
Not really - most theaters stay open. The Cabaret Theater, Stage Works, Camelot, and the Ginger Rogers are open most all the time. Even the OSF is open 9 months a year. Also, all the restaurants, galleries, and wineries stay open and don't have the crowds of summer. Skiing at Mount Ashland, snow-shoeing at Diamond Lake, or ice skating in Lithia Park followed by a relaxing and soothing soak in our hot springs whirlpool tub are exclusively winter activities. Once guests discover Ashland's "Other Season," many become regulars.
Myth #3. You can' t get over the mountains in winter.
Actually I-5 interstate rarely closes and then only for a few hours. Being the only North-South, West Coast route, there is sufficient machinery to keep the traffic flowing 99% of the time. Call us before you leave home if in doubt. We'll always give you a "Snow Check," if weather is not safe.
Myth # 4. It rains all winter in Ashland.
Actually Ashland receives less rain than Walnut Creek, California. Ashland receives 17-18 inches a year, Walnut Creek 18 -19 inches. Ashland lies south of "Oregon's Rain Belt" and has a mild temperate climate with many sunny days.
We hope you will join us for our "Other" season. Make your reservations today and find a world-class, relaxing getaway waiting for you.
